Confused

What happens when love fades and
no longer sees beyond the selfishness
that place in disillusionment’s bed
where pain festers and breeds doubt

What happens when a heart falters and
sorrows desire buries the spirit in shame
turning love’s worth into nothingness
…whose shadows loom ever larger

What happens when love sinks and
drowns in dark mirages of teary angst
…when one ceases to hear or speak
the words seem to mean less and less

What happens when mutual respect dies and
broken hearts forget that, they cared once
…when bitterness begins to surface and
kindness is no longer shared…required

What happens to love?
