(Inspired by and In Memory of Mr. Troy Davis)
The self-righteous savages!!!
Life snuffed from an innocent man
…I’ll say it because
no one else will…
because, he was Black…man!
Don’t be intelligent and Black
Don’t be strong, male and Black
They’ll come for you and
suffer you the indignities
of this, misguided and deluded “society”
Desecrate and disassemble
your woman’s pride
break your family’s royal stride
render you weak and helpless
(Lord they’ve taken so many of us…)
Undeniable their lascivious and
petty, liar’s justifications…such
baseless crudity
how blatant and brightly lit
…their hatred…unjustified
their fear of his strength…his worth
his Blackness (skin)
They’ve taken our brother from us
loosed tears from another mother
Why must we as a culture
…continue to suffer racism’s clutch?
Suited beasts…monsters!!!
Send minions to prowl our streets
snatching our fathers and brothers
skulking, weeding through…searching
always lurking…watching
working tirelessly…for scapegoats
…refused to let him rise
They see his brown skin glows…shines
one can feel the jealousy
of Africa’s finest…son of kings
of our royalty…how his voice would ring
refused to allow his freedom sing
Blinded his facts with wicked rhetoric
propaganda, innuendo and speculations
concentrated only on continued degradation
gives one pause for contemplation…Why!?!
They marvel and laugh collectively…
“another nigger bites the dust”
…laughing heartily
The expense of Black life…meaning(less)
so much of our history, living in distress
But…what they don’t know…
the Blessed Savior is making a place
He promised a special and glorious space
the wicked will never enter Heaven’s gate
the poor and righteous will be made kings
We’ll bask in the Glory of God’s light…
…and for eternity…we’ll sing
Brother Davis is singing now…
“Sweet chariot, comin for to carry me home”*
