As I Think Back

I’ve lived a life, I hope has been righteous
turned my other cheek on many occasions
loved a world that doesn’t love itself
though I will never stop giving…it hurts still

I’ve crossed paths with a few dark souls and
showed compassion, rather than anger
a prayer upon my heart, still hopes yet
there will eventually come a time of peace

I’ve been blessed with love a time or two
have known the magic of a woman’s allure
sons and daughters;  my sweet legacy…
taught me humility, patience…gave me joy

I’ve always tried to show kindness to others
lent a helping hand to those who’ve hungered
been an advocate of God’s holy plan for life
though born a sinner…I hope to die a king

It’s never mattered what others have thought
only God can judge my sins and shortcomings
I’ve always tried to be a good person…and
at my end…hope to stand at Heaven’s gate*
